Credit Only Vs. Letter Grades
If my student chooses the “credit only option”, how will his current GPA be affected?
If your student elects to receive “Credit Only” in their classes, they will receive credit towards meeting graduation requirements. The credit will not be factored into their GPA and their GPA will remain the same.

Is it possible to elect the “credit-only” option for some classes, and choose to receive letter grades for other classes? How will this be factored into my student’s GPA?
Yes. Students may elect to receive credit-only in some of their classes and attempt a letter grade for others. The classes that students elect for a letter grade will be factored into their GPA and count towards graduation requirements. If your student wishes to receive a letter grade for the completion of the course, he must email his teacher by April 24th.
If my student elects “Letter Grades” for her AP class, will the grading scale remain the same?
Yes. Your student’s grade will be factored in her GPA. The 5.0 scale will be taken into account only if your student takes the AP Exam.
Does my student need to complete their AP course even if they are not taking the AP exam?
Yes. Your student will need to meet all requirements deemed as essential by their instructor. AP class requirements may vary by class. Students should speak to their AP instructors individually.
Where can I obtain information about the AP exam?
For the most up to date AP Exam information, please refer to the CollegeBoard website. Their website is https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students
Is there a plan for AP testing?
- Traditional face-to-face exam administration will not take place.
- For the 19-20 exam administration, students that signed up to take the exams will be able to take a 45-minute online exam at home, or anywhere that there is WIFI available. Please stay tuned for an update from the school regarding WIFI access for exams.
- Exams will be mobile friendly and can be completed on a computer, tablet or phone.
- For each AP exam, there will be two dates to choose from for when students assess. We encourage students to consult with their AP teachers on a learning and testing plan.
- If after consulting with their AP teacher a student that signed up for the exam feels uncomfortable with their decision, they may decide to back out of the exam, without incurring the $40 drop fee. However, the College Board will not be issuing refunds for those that already committed to take the AP Exam.
- Access to all review materials have been made readily available to all AP students through their AP Central accounts.
- If your student is having trouble accessing their accounts and cannot login after attempting to retrieve or reset their passwords, they will need to contact the College Board’s helpline at (888) 225-5427.
My student is a senior and has a C- in his Michigan Virtual class. Does he still need to complete work in that class for the remainder of the year?
Yes. Because the platform for online classes remained the same, students were instructed to continue to work through their online classes during the closure. Students must continue to meet class requirements for the remainder of the year in order to earn credit for the class. For questions, students should check with their online instructor and facilitator.
Will class ranking and Top Ten status be affected if I choose the “credit only” option?
No. Electing “credit only” will not have any effect on Top Ten or class rankings.
Is it possible to do some of our Senior events, like Graduation, virtually?
It’s definitely a possibility. We are currently looking at non-traditional ways to celebrate our seniors. Once plans have been finalized, we will communicate updates to families.
My student is a senior and is currently passing with a C-. Does he need to continue to complete assignments in their AP course even if they are not taking the AP exam?
Yes. In order to earn credit for the class, your student must continue to complete the essential learnings in their AP course. It is recommended that your student speak with his AP teacher for additional guidance.
How will I pick up my cap and gown and my senior t-shirt?
We will be in contact in the upcoming weeks about the pick up of remaining Senior items.
How will students go about returning school laptops?
Currently our building is closed for the remainder of the school year. Once we have guidance to reopen, we will communicate procedures for laptop returns.
My student has things in her locker. Will I be able to pick those items up?

Are there any changes to the end of the school year?

How can parents support and help our students?
- Continue to encourage your student to engage with each of their teachers on a weekly basis.
- Ensure that your student stays up to date on the essential learning needed to earn credit in their courses.
- Encourage your student to attend their teacher’s Office Hours each week.
- Check your student’s grades on Infinite Campus each week.
- Reach out to your student’s teachers with questions or concerns.
- Let your student know that you are proud that they are continuing to persevere through the remainder of this year.

I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. Taking the Governor’s guidance into account, we would now like to provide you with some information related to earning class credits. Although the points below will provide sufficient clarity for many, we realize that there will also be unique situations that will need to be addressed in a one-on-one format as well; please know that we will be here to guide and support you.
Semester 2 courses will be given pass, fail, or incomplete for grades.
To earn a passing credit, students must:
Step 1 Complete 1 weekly check-in per instructor
- Google Form or
- Phone/Email or
- Live Office Hours
Step 2 Demonstrate mastery in assigned essential learning by the instructor
- Mastery is determined by each instructor
- Demonstrate mastery on all of the essential learnings
- Students demonstrating mastery will receive credit that will count towards graduation, but will not factor into GPA*
*For a letter grade that will factor into your GPA, please email each of your teachers that this is your desire by April 24th.
A student who does not complete the activities and/or demonstrate mastery of essential learning standards will receive an “incomplete” grade and will be given future support and opportunities to earn credit.
We are WAIVING the following requirements this year:
- 15 Community Service hours
- Additional guidance may be given by your AP Teacher.
Early College/Dual Enrollment Courses
- All Early College Courses should be continued with the guidance of the college. Taylor Prep cannot grant any exceptions or extensions.
Information related to important events like Honors Night, Graduation and prom are yet to be determined. We are brainstorming ideas and will be soliciting ideas from you as well.

RE: Class of 2020 Graduation Requirements during COVID-19 School Closure
Dear Seniors and Parents,
I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. Taking the Governor’s guidance into account, we would now like to provide you with some information related to earning your diploma. Although the points below will provide sufficient clarity for many, we realize that there will also be unique situations that will need to be addressed in a one-on-one format as well; please know that we will be here to guide and support you. Please keep in mind that these options apply only to 2020 Seniors; guidance for students in other grades will come in a separate communication.
Options for earning credit for current Semester 2 courses:
- If your grade in Infinite Campus was at a C- or higher as of March 11, you will be awarded credit for the course and can be done. This option does not impact your GPA.
- For AP courses, please consult with your AP teacher for Exam review materials
- If you were below a C-, you will need to successfully complete the assignments your teacher deems essential for you to reach a C-. Once your teacher confirms successful completion, you will be awarded credit for the course and can be done. This option does not impact your GPA.
- If you believe that earning a letter grade is essential for any reason, please reach out to your classroom teacher or Mrs. Sharp to discuss options.
Other graduation requirements:
- Successful completion of at least 22 credits, including all requirements listed in the handbook
- Successful completion of 2 AP courses or 200+ level college courses, or a combination
- Successful acceptance to a 4-year college or university
We are WAIVING the following requirements this year:
- Community Service hours
- Job Shadow/Senior Project/Senior Presentation
If you are in need of credit recovery to meet your graduation requirements, Ms. Person will be reaching out to you to set up a path to graduation to ensure all your credits are met.

Effective Tuesday 3/23, meal distribution will discontinue at Taylor Prep. Families are encouraged to visit any of the following following K-8 partner schools to obtain free meals:
